Interested in trying Yoga? This ancient Indian discipline has infinite benefits including increased energy, weight loss, improved muscle strength, enhanced flexibility and stress relief. There are many different types of yoga, but all contain breathing, physical and philosophical elements.

While practicing yoga, it is essential to move the body correctly and use proper form in poses. Just as in any physical activity, poor alignment can cause injury.

The concept of yoga is to increase your own limits. Although yogis are encouraged to reach and surpass their limitations, pushing unnaturally hard negatively affects the body. Don-t try to compete with the person who has their face next to their toes and looks like a human rubber band in Uttanasana (standing forward bend). Instead of risking a pulled muscle, breathe into the pose until you have reached your deepest point. This is when yoga is the most powerful for the mind and body.

Yoga is great for the back because many poses engage back muscles that are frequently misused in modern society. Be sure to warm up properly before attempting deep twists and backbends. Never bend to an uncomfortable level. Back pain during yoga is your body-s way of telling you something is wrong.

When performed properly, yoga is a fantastic tool that can elevate anyone. Remember to practice with correct form and listen to your body for a rewarding experience.

Holidays are filled with family, friends and food! The time spent with family and friends is great, but the food can be a distraction to those who are trying to live a healthy lifestyle.

3 keys to having a great Holiday season without packing on the pounds:

1. Do not restrict yourself from your favorite foods!
If we try not to eat the pumpkin pie or the greenbean casserole loaded with cheese and fried onions, that only makes things harder. Have a little bit.I was looking for more information and found it here. The key word here is LITTLE. Have a taste of everything you enjoy, just don’t overdue it.

2. Stay active!
After you eat a big meal, go for a walk outside, on your treadmill or make a trip to the gym. Just because it is cold outside does not mean you can’t go for a walk! Bundle up, grab the dog and go. Better yet, take your family and friends and have everyone go together!

3. Cook on the light side!
Lighten up your Holiday recipes. Instead of making the sweet potato casserole that’s weighted down with butter, sugar, and marshmallows, make a lighter version. Try adding orange juice and a touch of brown sugar instead.

Are you one of those people who skip breakfast every morning? Do you struggle to lose weight, be it a significant amount or just a few stubborn pounds? Getting your meals in check can drastically affect your weight. Daily choices such as what to eat for breakfast and snacks add up over time and result in either a thicker middle or a thinner waist. Below are some common things to implement when it comes to eating more healthy.

Eat Breakfast
Skipping breakfast has been lined with increased hunger throughout the day, leading you to munch on those unhealthy snacks or overeat for lunch. You can find a quick rundown here Start each day with a healthy breakfast such as oatmeal, fresh fruit or yogurt and you will be on your way towards dropping those pounds.

Eat Your Veggies and Fruit
When choosing a dinner or lunch, make sure there is at least one, preferably two, servings of fresh fruit and vegetables. These should be the bulk of your meal. Meals high in carbs such as spaghetti or heavy pasta salad with bread sticks are going to add more calories to your day and can lead to weight gain. Instead, choose protein dense foods accompanied by plenty of veggies and fruit.

Running the 5K race is possible for anyone, even if you have never ran before. Within about 8 to 10 weeks of proper training and exercise anyone can successfully run this race.
Before beginning training, you want to make sure you have picked out proper fitting shoes and gear. Shoes need to be comfortable and fit perfectly to avoid injuries. Also, you want to make sure you pick clothing to suit the weather and that your clothes don’t rub or chafe your body uncomfortably.
The next step is to decide on an exercise and healthy eating plan that fits your body. You will want to schedule at least 6 weeks to dedicated workouts. Decide which workouts will be completed each week and make sure to warm your muscles before beginning by stretching. Develop a healthy diet schedule as well, to ensure your body will be able to fuel your movements. The more you run, the more your appetite will increase, so be sure to eat foods that are high in protein, cars, and low in fat. Avoid sugary and greasy foods because they can put a drag on your metabolism and slow your blood flow. Be sure to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
